Nashville & Brown County
Meander along narrow country roads and wander aimlessly through the rolling hills and sleepy hollows of southern Indiana. Cross over the picturesque Bean Blossom Covered Bridge built in 1880 and located on Covered Bridge Road in Bean Blossom. Witness Brown County's brilliant display of color during the fall season when the countryside becomes a blurred canvas of majestic reds and sunkissed yellows. Watch for deer grazing in the meadows at roadside as twilight approaches.
Nashville also offers a variety of nighttime entertainment. Listen to live music at the Little Nashville Opry or learn to line dance at Mike's Music and Dance Barn. Take in a play at the Brown County Playhouse or the Pine Box Music Theatre. To hear the best in bluegrass, plan a special trip around the annual Bill Monroe Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival scheduled in June. Blues and gospel events are also scheduled at various times throughout the year.
Bittersweet Farm is conveniently located just north of Nashville near Bean Blossom and is within a short drive to many of the area's favorite attractions and pastimes. During your stay take time to experience the old-fashioned ambience and charm of Nashville, an artists' colony in the heart of Brown County where one will find over 250 eclectic shops scattered haphazardly about the quaint village streets. Set aside some time to stroll through the various studios and galleries many of which feature the motley wares of local artisans and craftsmen. Before heading back to the cabin, stop by the Nashville House for their famous homemade hot fried biscuits and baked apple butter. For lighter fare, the Hobnob Corner Restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, soups and salads.
Take a 20-mile walk along the Ten O'Clock Line Hiking Trail which connects Yellowwood State Forest and Brown County State Park. Picnicking, fishing and horseback riding are also available at both locations for those looking for less strenuous activity. Bring a mountain bike and ride the 25-mile trail system at Gnaw Bone Camp or try the Knobstone Trail (Nebo Ridge) near Story which offers a 17-mile loop of singletrack. Canoe tours via Brown County Wilderness Canoe Rental exist from April through November. See link below for details.
